What Lies Between Science and Buddhism?

Quantum Physics and Buddhism

A discussion between Quantum Physicists and the Dalai Lama, spurned my thoughts to form opinions and views, and to eventually conclude, that even such higher views, are in truth, not the path to Enlightenment, and in fact, are precisely one of the main obstacles, which are linked to one of the primary Fetters, which prevent our eventual Enlightenment!

Einstein and Buddhism Quote

After listening to a very interesting conversation and discussion between Quantum Physicists and the Dalai Lama, it occurred to me as i was listening with interest, and forming my own opinions and views (Dhitti), that it is our views, which are the cause of our sufferings, and the cause of our false self-identification (Sakaaya Dhitti).

The Buddha gave a discourse on Views (Dhitti), and explained how all views are false, and do not lead to Nibbana (Peace and Stilling of Stressful Agitation)

All such discussions and subsequent views which arise, are pointless, Because enlightenment, only comes, when all views have been destroyed.

All of the arguments which may be scientific, or philosophical, are based in views.
And views, are all erroneous.

It is only with the stilling of the analytical thought process, the stilling of the question, and the extinguishing of the need to know an answer, that brings peace.

Enlightenment comes with the stilling of these questions, not the raising of them. Liberation comes with the destroying of Views, and the abandonment of the Fetters. Not with the raising of questions, and forming of views.

Hence, the search for views which correlate between Buddhist and Scientific Thought, are not the Path. The discussion serves to gaiin favourable opinion with those Humans who believe that sicence, is superior to religion, and is made by Physicists who are Buddhist, who are acting out of a clinging desire to spread Buddhism, for it is the Religion they Love.

The result is auspicious, because it leads more people to contemnplate the Dhamma. But if quantum physics truly aligns with the Buddha-Dhamma, then people will also be able to use Physics to become enlightened.. which is something i seriously doubt.

The Dhamma is not a view, it destroys views.

Quantum Physics imposes views

Here are the two videos of the discussion with the Dalai Lama, which spawned this post and podcast.

Excellent High Dhamma for Serious Practitioners from Luang Ta Maha Boowa

True Eightfold Path Dhamma Teachings for the Savaka. Beginning with this blog post, I shall be posting a sequence of relevant and related teachings both by the great Buddhist masters, and also some contributions by myself, in order to coagulate the teachings into one formula, and bring them all into context with The Dhammas i wish to discuss and share with you all.

Luang Ta Ajahn Maha Boowa

Ajahn Maha Boowa (Luang Ta Maha Bua), is a high Arya Sangha of the Luang Phu Mun Lineage, amd Forest Tudong Monk practice. He is one of the greatest teachers of attained practice and considered to be an Arahant by many of his Devotees.

This teaching is a higher teaching for Bhikkhus, and for those who wish to practice on the nost intensive level. Given by Ajarn Maha Boowa to his Bhikkhus. It is an extremely excellent teaching, and is of value to those who seek the path to Arahantship.

To find more teachings from Ajahn Maha Boowa, one good place to start, is the Forest Dhamma Website

My other favorite haunt and recommended source of teacings as audi teachings or as books, is the Dhamma Talks website which features the teachings of my favorite of all Ordained Teachers, Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

You can hear an excellent teaching from Thanissaro Here in the below talk.

Ethos, Pathos, Logos.

Ethos, pathos and logos. The Platonic methods, of applying the techniques of attaining one goals and convincing others of one’s point of view, as explained by the ancient Greek philosophers of those times, to use, as a method of obtaining one’s egoistic goals. I personally believe that the first of these three necessary elements to achieve logos namely, ethos requires true hearted intention, because the only true and adequate informed qualified background and experience of the speaker will leave him invincible and unassailable from other clever persons with other points of view, which could destroy the logic of the speaker.

Pythagoras

If you examine the imagery which is within the painting of Pythagoras above, you may find allegorical references to many of the great inner mysteries.

Others will not listen to truth, even if it is true indeed. Unless, the speaker has a viable trajectory our background which underlines and confirms his authority on what he is speaking about. Part of what makes people ready to believe what one is saying, is not the truth or how logical it sounds. It is whether they believe that the person speaking knows what he’s talking about or not. This is the meaning of ethos, and ethos, is something one must master and possess, in order to possess the powers to convince others.

True power of will and incantation lies in these three applied methods of ethics truth and contundent explanation of the truth

Ethos, therefore, is mainly the act of having attained a certain history and trajectory in one is chosen subject in order for people to be conditioned enough to believe the true words you may reveal.  Ethos means a believable source or authority, on what the person is speaking about. Pathos is the path, you undertake to successfully convince others of your view.

Logos, is the truth or logic within the words you wield. If all three of these facets of convincing others are affected and completed successfully, then the choice of the listener, all the views and beliefs of the listener, do not come into the matter any more. The listener is convinced by your unshakeable truth explained clearly and without allowing any room for doubt or dissension.

Rhetoric using the Greek system of ethos pathos and logos

Most people in the modern age have heard of the word rhetoric, but few of them know that it was developed and applied first in human civilisation as far as history has documented at least, by the ancient Greeks.

May have already realise, that the words Ethos, pathology, as well as the word path, and logic all stem from the ethos pathos logos principle methods of convincing others, and projecting influence upon the minds of men. Is one of the first principles of government and even of worldly activities on a low level such as advertising.

The false understanding of applying the science of the ethos pathos and low cost. Use for deceptive goals. In 30 K is the first principle of the ethos are ethics are an ethical appearance, is destroyed making the attainment of the final principle of logos impossible to attain. This is of course, where the ignorant tried to walk the path of the wise, but fail in attaining the final goal of the final destination and entry into that secret garden which only those who are pure of heart may find

Why the 3 characteristics are difficult to see

The three characteristics, are the three marks of existence, or as known in Pali, ‘Tilakkhana’. A basic introduction to why it is difficult for unenlightened beings to pierce through the veils of illusion which are influenced by the three characteristics, and see those three characteristics in motion. There are various obstacles which prevent he who does not contemplate deeply, from seeing the three characteristics.

Consciousness of a thing is not the thing itself

Consciousness of feelings, like sadness, or happiness, is not the happiness itself. Consciousness, is not the thought itself, not the word, nor the abstract thought or daydream it’s-‘self’ (itself). It does not have a self, within which it can think up, perceive, or think it perceives. Consciousness of events and of emotions are not the Emotions themselves.

Consciousness is not the sadness itself. Consciousness of Intentions, Inclinations, Desires, Thoughts, Opinions, and Incoming Communications.

Consciousness immaterial and inseparable from everything else. Consciousness is not self.
